I’ve long warned promised that I would start flogging these awards in a serious way. Due, in part to some prodding from SAGE, that time has now come. Here’s where we stand:
Nominees for Best Blog (Group):
Nominees for Best Blog (Individual):
- Dart-Throwing Chimp (Jay Ulfelder)
- Abu Aardvark’s Middle East Blog (Marc Lynch)
- Chris Blattman
- International Political Economy Zone (Emmanuel Yujuico)
- M. Taylor Favrel
- Phil Arena’s Blog
- Saideman’s Semi-Spew (Steve Saideman)
- Slouching Toward Columbia (Daniel Trombly)
Nominees for Most Promising New Blog:
- Circuit: International Relations and Information Technology
- International Trade Examiner
- Nuclear Diner
- Political Violence @ A Glance
- PONARS Policy Blog
- The Smoke-Filled Room
Nominees for Best Blog Post:
- Brent E. Sasley, “The Passions of Erdogan” (Huffington Post)
- Mira Sucharov, “Israel should listen to Shimon Peres – and look in the mirror” (The Fifth Question, Haaretz)
- John M. Hobson “Eurocentrism, Racism: What’s in a Word?” (The Disorder of Things)
- LFC, “Book Review:Â Winning the War on War” (Howl at Pluto)
- Nils Gilman, “Plutocratic Insurgency” (Small Precautions)
These are great nominations, but it seems to me that our readers are making it too easy on the current nominees. There’s a lot more quality out there than this; regional and area-studies blogs that fit our criteria are particularly badly underrepresented.
You may add nominations in the comments section or email them. If you want to guarantee yourself a right to vote, also let me know. Procedures here.
For Most Promising New Blog: Nuclear Diner.
We began in October 2011.
Nomination for Best Blog (Individual): https://taylorfravel.com/ (M. Taylor Fravel)
Why is there no nomination for Duck of Minerva?
If so, can I put one in?
We’re flattered, but the Duck of Minerva is ineligible for awards (guest bloggers are eligible for their activities at other sites). Wouldn’t be proper.
For an area studies blog that fits your criteria (new blog): https://www.ponarseurasia.org/articles/category/policy-blogs
Best blog (group): Abu Muquwama (which is now a group).
Best blog (individual): International Political Economy Zone (I believe the most-read IPE blog not associated with a publication).
