Even when Latin Americans are allowed to speak, IR scholars and practitioners do not listen to them due to the language in which they produce knowledge, epistemic violence and access barriers.
Patrícia Nabuco Martuscelli is a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Sheffield, England where she is involved in discussions on decolonising teaching and research at the Department of Politics and International Relations. Patricia is a PhD in Political science (University of São Paulo - USP, Brazil). She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in International Relations (University of Brasília – UnB, Brazil). She is also a Research Fellow at the International Relations Research Centre at the University of São Paulo (NUPRI/USP) and at the Study and Research Centre on Environmentally Displaced Persons at Paraíba State University, Brazil (NEPDA/UEPB). Martuscelli has been a visiting scholar at the Zukunftskolleg at the University of Konstanz, Germany, the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, United States. Her research on migrant and refugee children, family migration and asylum policies in Brazil and Latin America was published in different journals including the American Behavioral Scientist (ABS), Journal of Refugee Studies, Refuge, Conflict, Security and Development , and Critical Studies on Security.
